Riders of The City
Bike messengers were once the fastest way to get a document across a city - until the arrival of email. Yet even today, in a world with superfast broadband, these messengers form an integral part of London’s commercial engine. Nobody else knows the city like a courier. Day in, day out, the courier rides in all weathers, often riding a minimum of 40 miles a day, taking items from shops to model agencies, post-production tapes to ITV on the Southbank or taking cheques from the Island into the city.
As a result of this life on the fringe, the bike messenger remains part and parcel of the city’s beating heart, all the while blending into the background of the bustling metropolis, dodging traffic daily, risking their lives for the freedom and thrill of riding on two wheels.
